I'll also keep looking through my registry to find autoplay entries and update as I find them. This issue is so old now, a lot of people just dropped WMP and for using a third party media player.
As far as I can remember, on another thread related to this issue, Microsoft said : this behaviour is "by design" Better stop repeating incorrectly that this is by design. Here's the link to that thread again, search for "Lava K" twice:. This bug is a bad regression from WMP11 that can be systematically repro'd. MSFT zachd in this very thread acknowledged it is a bug: "The situation as described by Cairo is abnormal, as I understand it.
Autorun and autoplay seem to be the logical culprit, and that's probably what the WMP12 contract testers thought or were told when they encountered this bug, which I am pretty sure they must have at some stage. But ask any real WMP user for years, instead of a tester, and he'll tell you that this is a new bug on a feature that worked fine with WMP Microsoft seems to be extremely silent in all these 3 threads about the same subject.
I despair if they don't understand what WMP11 devs understood, that it is only common sense that when you are listening to music or watching a movie, your playback is not interrupted with no way to resume it when you insert a CD or DVD even a data CD. Mr Cairo, I have found this problem very annoying aswell, i have read most of these posts from the original thread and a few others. This is exactly what i did and i no longer have this problem no matter what disc or media device i insert, my playlist keeps playing uninterupted.
Now i'm not saying that its an autoplay problem as i have read from older posts that most of you disagree that it is, all i know is i did exactly what i've described and no longer have the problem. The stupid thing is that WMP does what I programmed it to do, i. I have to reopen manually the movie file to resume playing, as it's not in the WMP memory anymore.
I understand that this may have fixed your problem but it is not fixing the problem that all the other people in this thread have. I just thought that I would mention that I was also getting annoyed by this problem, but the CDAutoPlay reg key solution suggested earlier in the thread and in the link below worked well for me. I hate this functionality in windows media player it counteracts my desires all the time. What we need is a checkbox option to disable this functionality in windows media player.
This solves the problem partially. Make the following additions in the registry and the playback is not "unrecoverable" 1. Open Regedit 2. I see that WMP12 is reading the key atleast one time when the drive is inserted.
May be my answer is incomplete. If so, someone please help me I will also work on this I hope this was useful to some level. Wow, I can't believe you gave that answer when she said she'd already tried it. I have the exact same problem as she does. It's horrible. Next laptop: a Mac.
Forever more. Bill Gates, your organization has serious shortcomings. Vista home premium sp2. I have given up trying for answers on how to stop this! It can't handle multiple contexts at the same time. Upon inserting new disk, the Playing thread immediately switches to the disk playing mode, it can't handle playing separate content and exploring disk content at the same time.
But the problem is not evident in Library Mode because it has the ability to contunue disk exploring in the background while playing back any audio video file. There is solution to the previous versions as in WMP11 and before because there there are no separate architecture for Now Playing mode and the Library mode I believe i have figured out a solution to this probem. During a session of testing i received an error that i have not seen before and have not heard mentioned before about files not being able to be ripped from the disc.
Before everyone gets out of hand and says that this has nothing to do with the current issue i assure you it does as i watch movies from my hard drive while backing up additional movies using dvdfab and was sick of having to reset the movie currently being watched every half hour when i would insert the next of my dvd's.
Now as stated i have never scene the error mentioned above prior to this attempt and am sure no one else has either but long story short i disabled an automatic ripping feature in wmp options and have not had the trouble since as this issue has been going on for a long time i will list the options i took and would like some feed back as to weather this worked for anyone other than me before i say its definitely the cause found and solution to the prolem as everyone has mentioned a simple check box to fix the problem would be great and would appear to me to have been there all along we were all just looking in the wrong spot please follow the steps below and then post to confirm this worked for others thanks.
Open windows media player and prest the ALT key on your keyboard this will open a dropdown in the top right that you will recognize as what used to be a menu bar at the top of most older softwares. A dialog box will open. Select the Rip Music tab. Untick that checkbox and click ok and your done. It should no longer interupt your current media unless you tell it to.
As this seemed completely irrelevant to me at first it has fixed the issue i was having that led me to this thread and two others that all seem to have no answer. As this is the only machine i have currently running windows media player 12 and to my knowledge the only one capable of running windows media player 12 i have not been able to test this on another machine to confirm. As if the control panel options made no difference at all. This install of 7 is only about a month old.
This is extremely annoying behavior that is only driving people to using one of the many alternative choices which don't exhibit this behavior. So far we've had people telling us to add these registry keys which don't solve the problem.
We've had people tell us disabling autoplay would solve it, which it does not. I've even went in and removed all file associations to any media file types, all that did was frustrate me even further when it did not work.
It's dirt simple to reproduce and it does it on every Window's 7 computer I've tried it on regardless of what configuration or software is set-up. It does not matter how deep the media file is, if there's one on the disc it'll find it.
This is not at all a good "feature". It's gotten to the point where I'm seriously considering shelving all of my personal projects to work on a hack to remove that one retarded "feature".
It's not even a needed "feature" as Autoplay already provides similar functionality and is entirely optional. You might want to report this in a new thread in this forum to get more visibility. This thread is getting way too long to be useful. Since this looks like an obvious bug, perhaps one of the forum moderators here can forward this to the WMP product team?
You've described it well: in now playing mode it switches over when you insert anything with media files on it. I'd forgotten exactly how annoying this was until today when I plugged in my phone to charge while watching a movie.
Fortunately I now know the magic voodoo sequence of clicks to get playback back to where it left off, but I've watched other users get very, very frustrated by this design. In fact, the way it currently works is pretty much the opposite of how it should be.
It makes sense that in LIBRARY mode it switches to whatever media is inserted, but if something's already playing it should under absolutely no circumstances switch away from that. Okay, one circumstance - if you eject the media that it's playing off. Hah, actually I see my original complaint is already referenced on this thread by Stephane B. Bit depressing to see it hasn't been fixed in three years.
When I start media player 12 it constantly retrieves and downloads media information. I really have always liked media player but since I cant correct this I switched to itunes. Thursday, May 27, PM. Ok found the fix. Friday, May 28, PM. Hi tascott1, Please check if the following settings can fix the issue: 1.
Regards, Linda. Friday, May 28, AM. Unfortuantly this has no effect. Click the arrow below the Sync tab, point to the device, and then click Advanced Options.
The properties dialog box for your device is displayed. In the Sync tab, clear the Start sync when device connects check box. Edit: Offtopic Note: I used imageshack. It appears imagegrotto. Start WMP 11 with your device attached. Click the little down arrow at the bottom of the Sync button.
Choose "Stop sync to device From the same drop-down menu, choose the device, then select "Setup sync Heck it feels like some pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre alpha. Snake , now Media Center shows the album art that Is Inserted In the music file tag, so If there Is an higher resolution album art inserted In the file tag, than Media Center will show up a higher resolution when played. Indeed billy gun they seem to have improved this WMC version.
The files I checked didnt had embedded art ; but its downloaded art was still x But I mostly use WMP 12 which doesnt show cover art atall in now playing mode. Shame because WMP11,12 have the best sound quality in my opinion. I haven't installed zune on win7 yet, but on vista when wmp11 sometimes resized folder. Yeah WMP12 is the only thing I don't like about windows 7 tbh. The visualization options really need to be updated, they're the same as XP. Yeah you can download some addition visualizations but it seems like microsoft should be able to cook up something better as a default visualization.
Also, there's some serious inconsistencies as well, such as when I go into full screen mode. The visualization changes from a custom one I have to the bars one, and there's no way to change it.
Build Also, if I go to full screen mode of now playing and right click I can change the speed of the song slow, normal and fast but when I exit out of full screen mode and right click it doesn't have that option. It might just be a build issue, i dunno. And I want WMP to leave folder. So how exactly do you reproduce your issue of the album art being overwritten? You say the albumartsmall existed, which indicates you have the "initial" condition to compare to - what is that?
Is the "new" bad album art from the file itself or from the 'net? I've always been annoyed with this "feature. I've tried protecting under properties, and for the most part that has worked, but it can be tedious when you have over albums.
