I believe the culprit on my laptop was version guard for a trainer I use. Like Snuffleupagus, the driver problem was resolved by manual installation. No such luck for updating GeForce Experience, however. It, too is getting the Data Invalid message. Some online research suggested this is a problem with Windows Permissions.

Someone who changed permissions directly by editing their registry file reported success. So I went to change the appropriate permissions in my registry related to my video card.
